High-Integrity Landfill Methane Carbon Credits

What our Carbon Credits Represent

Defining the climate impact behind each LoCI issued credit

LoCI’s carbon credits represent verified CO₂-equivalent emissions avoided through landfill methane destruction, addressing a greenhouse gas with 28× the near-term warming impact of CO₂. For buyers, this delivers outsized climate impact per credit, supporting faster progress toward near-term sustainability commitments and science-based targets.

Unlike estimates based on periodic sampling, LoCI credits are built on continuous, real-time field data from landfill gas collection systems across our project portfolio. This enables precise quantification of incremental methane reductions above regulatory baselines.

These credits are issued for organizations seeking high-integrity, near-term climate impact as part of corporate net-zero strategies, voluntary climate commitments, and aviation decarbonization programs.

Designed for Global Voluntary and Aviation Markets

LoCI carbon credits are issued under the American Carbon Registry's Landfill Gas Destruction and Beneficial Use Methodology, Version 2.0 (2021)one of the most rigorous landfill methane frameworks in the voluntary carbon market.

This methodology has:

  • Received approval under the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) Core Carbon Principles (2024)

  • Achieved Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) eligibility for use in global airline decarbonization programs

Unlike static or assumed baselines, ACR’s approach establishes a dynamic, project-specific three-year baseline of methane recovery prior to LoCI deployment. This ensures that credit generation reflects incremental, additional methane destruction, not business-as-usual performance.

The baseline calculation accounts for key landfill and operational factors, including:

  • Total waste in place and incoming waste volumes

  • Waste composition and degradation potential

  • The extent of active gas collection across the landfill surface

  • Type of cover installed (daily, intermediate, or final cover)

  • Areas without existing gas collection infrastructure

By grounding credit issuance in real operational history and validating improvements against that baseline using continuous data, LoCI credits deliver a higher level of transparency, defensibility, and buyer confidence than traditional landfill offset projects.

Where our Projects are Located

LoCI carbon credit projects are located at landfill sites across multiple U.S. regions, delivering measurable methane reductions where the impact is most immediate.

Many carbon credit buyers prioritize geographic transparency and project siting. We provide full location data, project status, and regional context for all active and pipeline credit-generating sites.Black White Minimalist Square Frame Fashion Custom Tailor Logo-2
